Oxbow Eco-Center is launching its inaugural Teen Club on January 8

December 29, 2024

The Oxbow Eco-Center is launching the inaugural Oxbow Teen Club on Wednesday, Jan. 8 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Oxbow Eco-Center.  This opportunity is for students in grades 9-12 interested in gaining professional skills, being an environmental leader and helping the community by preserving, protecting and enhancing the local environment.

Why join the Oxbow Teen Club? Members will participate in environmental community-based service projects, learn about natural resource management techniques such as prescribed fires and invasive species control, fine-tune their observation and naturalist skills, develop leadership skills and gain knowledge of local government operations. Members also gain access to exclusive guided adventures throughout St. Lucie County’s 24 nature preserves. The program aims to educate participants on the important, complex role that humans play in the environment.

In-person meetings take place every Wednesday during the school year at the Oxbow Eco-Center starting Jan. 8. Members are welcome to come to the club any time after the school day; the official meeting time is from 3:30 to 4:30 pm. Field trips and service projects will take place every fourth Saturday of the month.

Registration is requested by emailing oxbow@stlucieco.org or by calling 772-785-5833. Whether you’re a nature expert looking to hone your skills or are just curious, the Oxbow Teen Club is where you want to be.

Located at 5400 N.E. St. James Drive in Port St. Lucie, the Oxbow Eco-Center houses the Environmental Education and Community Outreach Division of St. Lucie County’s Environmental Resources Department. The Oxbow is both an environmental learning center and nature preserve, encompassing 225 acres along the St. Lucie River. For more information visit www.oxboweco.com.
