High School Students Can Make Their
Voices Heard on City of PSL Youth Council
The City of Port St. Lucie is looking to hear from the leaders of tomorrow!
The Port St. Lucie Youth Council is seeking teens who want to be the voice of their peers and make a difference in their community. Students in grades 9-12 who are residents of Port St. Lucie are eligible to apply for the Youth Council.
The deadline to apply is June 14, 2024. Students interested in applying can visit www.cityofpsl.com/youthcouncil and fill out the online application form.
The Youth Council was established in 2023 as a way for young people in the community to share their voices and be part of the decision-making process. It also provides students with an opportunity to:
- Learn about local government
- Earn community service hours
- Build leadership skills
- Build public speaking and training opportunities
- Provide their input and feedback to City leaders
The inaugural Youth Council featured nine students from seven schools across St. Lucie County, as well as representatives from St. Lucie County Boys and Girls Clubs, and St. Lucie Roundtable.
Among the milestones they achieved were representing Port St. Lucie at an All-America City award event held in Denver; participating in the Florida League of Cities Youth Conference in Orlando; traveling to Tallahassee for Legislative Action Days; and hosting a booth at the City of Port St. Lucie Citizen Summit.
They also advocated for an end-of-school-year event for students. The inaugural Big Summer Blowout was hosted by the City of Port St. Lucie Parks and Recreation Department at Minsky Gym on May 30th and featured food and drinks, music, field-day contests, prizes and more.
