St. Lucie County Hosts Inaugural Community Preparedness Day May 4

April 18, 2024

As the 2024 hurricane season draws near, St. Lucie County’s Public Safety staff will host an inaugural Community Preparedness Day on Saturday, May 4, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Havert L. Fenn Center, located at 2000 Virginia Avenue.

Designed for children and families, this event is intended to educate residents that natural and man-made disasters can take place year-round, which is why it is important to have a plan and know what services are available to assist. The event will feature staff from a variety of county departments including Community Services, Communications, Public Safety, Public Works, Mosquito Control, Environmental Resources, Public Utilities and more.

There will be unique programs designed for children including a touch-a-truck area with fire trucks and heavy equipment, a special kid’s zone and a “young preppers” activity station.

Adults can meet with county staff to discuss pet shelter registration, special medical needs shelter registration, home repair after the storm, code compliance, evacuations, flood zones, storm drains, swales and roads.

If you are unable to attend the Community Preparedness Day on May 4th between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM at the Fenn Center, residents can find information about disaster preparedness at www.readystlucie.org.

St. Lucie County’s Public Safety staff will also have a booth at the 20th Annual Earth Day Festival on Saturday, April 20th from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Oxbow Eco-Center, located at 5400 NE St. James Drive in Port St. Lucie, and at the 10th Annual Safety Festival on Saturday, April 27th from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Clover Park, located at 31 Piazza Drive in Port St. Lucie.
