St. Lucie County Libraries Offer Fun for the Family this February

Enjoy quality time with the family while socializing and participating in learning opportunities through interactive programs through the St. Lucie County Library System.

Children’s and family activities for February include:

  • Spy Society on Thursdays, February 1, 2024 and 15th at 4:00 PM at the Hurston Branch. Train to be a secret agent by participating in fun activities and brain games. Best suited for students in grades 4 and up.

  • S.T.E.A.M. Power! Explore the world of science, technology, engineering, art & math in a storytime. Most suited for students in kindergarten through 5th grade.

  • Scavenger Hunt on Saturday, February 3rd between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM at the Lewis Branch. Can you find all the clues? Drop in and give it a try.

  • Movie Matinee: “Akeelah and the Bee” (2006) on Saturday, February 3rd at 2:30 PM at the Morningside Branch. Akeelah, a young girl from Los Angeles, attempts to make it into the National Spelling Bee despite her life's difficulties. This movie is rated PG with a running time of 112 minutes.

  • Crazy 8’s Math Club on Wednesdays, February 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th at 3:00 PM at the Kilmer Branch. The Crazy 8’s math club is back and now it is for the lower grades. Students in grades K through 2 can learn math in exciting new ways. From glow-in-the-dark activities to building new creations, participants will love every minute of this eight-week math club.

  • Movie Matinee: “Elemental” (2023) on Saturday, February 10th at 10:30 AM at the Lewis Branch. Set in Element City, where Fire, Water, Earth and Air live together, Ember, a tough, quick-witted woman, forms a friendship with a fun, sappy guy who challenges her beliefs about the world they live in. This movie is rated PG with a running time of 101 minutes.

  • Valentine’s Eve Scavenger Hunt on Tuesday, February 13th from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM at the Morningside Branch. Pick up a scavenger hunt sheet at the youth desk, look for hidden pictures, solve the puzzle and turn it in for a prize.

  • Kids Crafternoon on Tuesday, February 13th from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Lewis Branch. Make an afternoon of crafts at the library. All materials supplied. Best suited for students in grades 3-8.

  • Bi-lingual Storytime on Friday, February 16th at 10:30 AM at the Lewis Branch. Enjoy a bi-lingual story time in both English and Spanish. Best suited for ages 3-5.

  • LEGO Fun at the Library on Saturday, February 17th from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the Lewis Branch. Enjoy building and creating with LEGO bricks in the library. Best suited for elementary-age students.

  • Acts of Kindness Storytime on Saturday, February 17th at 10:30 AM at the Morningside Branch. Join us as we host a special kindness-themed reading and a craft to celebrate National Random Acts of Kindness Day.

  • Game Day: Cards, Monopoly & More on Wednesday, February 21st at 4:30 PM at the Lakewood Park Branch. Bring a few friends, a love for games and join us for some good old-fashioned board game fun. Some supplies provided or bring your favorites.

  • Movie Matinee: “Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie” on Saturday, February 24th at 10:30 AM at the Lewis Branch. When a magical meteor crash lands in Adventure City, it gives the PAW Patrol pups superpowers, transforming them into The MIGHTY PUPS. This movie is rated PG with a running time of 92 minutes.

  • Kid Crafternoon on Wednesday, February 28th at 4:30 PM at the Lakewood Park Branch. Join us in creating mini canvas masterpieces. All supplies provided. Best suited for ages 10 and older.

  • Family Game Night on Thursday, February 29th from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM at the Lewis Branch. Join us for some good old board game fun. This is a family event for parents and children. Bring your own games or use ours.

Teens and Teens

  • Movie Matinee: “Five Nights at Freddy’s” (2023) on Saturday, February 3rd at 2:00 PM. Mike discovers an abandoned restaurant may be haunted by murderous animatronics. The movie is rated PG-13 with a running time of 109 minutes.

  • Anime Multimedia Club on Thursday, February 8th at 4:15 PM at the Morningside Branch. It’s Anime Sampler Day. Revisit the classic “BIG 3” of anime with the first episode of Naruto, Bleach and One Piece. Best suited for students in grades 6-12.

  • Dungeons & Dragons on Thursday, February 8th and 22nd from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM at the Lewis Branch. Players gather for adventures across magical worlds. Best suited for ages 11 – 18.

  • Teen Crafternoon: Cardmaking on Thursday, February 15th from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM at the Lewis Branch. Best suited for ages 11-18 and up. All materials supplied.

  • Teen Video Tournament: Nintendo Switch Mario Kart Tournament on Saturday, February 17th from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM at the Lewis Branch. Best suited for ages 11 – 18.

  • Teen Tech Time on Saturday, February 17th at 3:00 PM at the Hurston Branch. Time to get techy. Teens are invited to come explore technology with fun gadgets and games. Suited for teens in grades 6 and higher.

  • Teen/Tween Crafternoon on Tuesday, February 20th at 4:30 PM at the Morningside Branch. New supplies provided along with several project ideas. Follow along or work on your own project.

  • Teen Crafternoon on Saturday, February 24th from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM at the Lewis Branch. Make your own soap. All materials supplied. Best suited for ages 11-18.

  • Sock Puppets on Wednesday, February 28th at 3:00 PM at the Hurston Branch. Be a puppeteer. Come on in and make your very own no-sew sock puppet. All materials provided. Suited for teens grades 6 and higher.

  • Teen Board Games Galore on Friday, February 29th from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM at the Lewis Branch. Join us at the library for some good old board game fun. Best suited for ages 11-18. Bring your own board game or use ours.

Weekly Programs

  • Family Storytime on Mondays at 10:30 AM at the Pruitt Campus Library. Designed for children up to age 5 years, but all ages are welcome.

  • Just Baby & Me on Tuesdays (two sessions) at 10:30 AM and 11:00 AM at the Lewis Branch. Songs, stories and movement fun for you and your baby. Best suited for infants up to 1 year.

  • Tales & Play on Wednesdays at 10:30 AM at the Morningside Branch. Children ages 0-5 and their caregivers are invited to story time. Afterward, all are welcome to stay for some open playtime.

  • Music & Motion for Kids - Action songs, movement, singing and fun. For children younger than 6 with a caregiver.
    • Wednesdays (two sessions) at 10:30 AM and 11:00 AM at the Lewis Branch
    • Fridays at 10:30 AM the Lakewood Park & Morningside Branches

  • Storytime Jam at 10:30 AM. Clap, dance and listen to stories. For ages 3-5.
    • Tuesdays at the Lakewood Park Branch
    • Wednesdays at Kilmer Branch
    • Thursdays at the Hurston Branch
    • Fridays at the Lewis Branch (except for the third Friday)

  • Pre-school Storybook Craft at 10:30 AM. Children ages 4 and 5 are invited to listen to stories and then join their parents and caregivers for a related craft.

    • Fridays at the Hurston Branch
