Oxbow Eco-Center BioBlitz Slated for February 1st

By St. Lucie County January 3, 2024

Do you want to learn about local nature? How about wildlife and wildflowers?  This might be the perfect opportunity.  The St. Lucie County UF/IFAS Extension Office, in conjunction with the Oxbow Eco-Center, will host a 2024 Oxbow Eco-Center Bioblitz on Thursday, February 1, 2024 from 8:30 AM to 11:00 AM. This event will be led by UF/IFAS Natural Resources Extension Agent Ken Gioeli and Oxbow Eco-Center Environmental Programs Coordinator Kirsi Johnson.

During this bioblitz event, participants will use the iNaturalist app to catalog wildlife and plants. We will venture out on the trails to learn about the diverse plants and animals in the Oxbow preserve. Participants will be asked to install the iNaturalist app on their smartphone, prior to meeting on February 1st. The Oxbow Eco-Center is located at 5400 St. James Drive in Port St. Lucie, FL 34983.

Extension programs such as this bioblitz are open to all persons without regard to race, color, sexual orientation, sex, age, disability, religion, or national origin. People seeking accommodation can make requests two weeks prior to the start of the event.

Participants should wear appropriate field attire. Closed-toe shoes, boots, long pants and hats are recommended. Personal cellphones are required.

Registration is required. This program registration fee is $10. For additional information, email Ken Gioeli ktgioeli@ufl.edu. ERD employees should use the promo code to register. Contact Kersi or Ken for the code.
