PSL's Ninth Inclusive Playground Opens at Jessica Clinton Park

November 3, 2023

Children of all abilities have another place to play in Port St. Lucie following the unveiling of the City’s latest accessible playground at Jessica Clinton Park, 3200 SE Southbend Blvd.

The playground at the park, named in honor of Jessica Lynne Clinton, who passed away suddenly because of an undiagnosed heart condition in 2003, features a variety of hearts throughout the soft play surface and amenities designed to accommodate all children, including those in wheelchairs or with other mobility concerns.

“The re-opening of the Jessica Clinton playground is more than just a new addition to Port St. Lucie’s parks; it symbolizes the City’s commitment to inclusivity and accessibility,” says Mike Kendrick, Deputy Director, Parks & Recreation. “This playground will provide a safe and stimulating environment for children of all ages and abilities.”

This is Port St. Lucie’s ninth playground designed to accommodate those of all abilities, joining playgrounds at Rotary, Swan, Sandhill Crane, Sportman’s, Lyngate, Charles E. Ray, Winterlakes and Woodland Trails parks. This playground transformation furthers the City’s commitment to enhance parks and invest in neighborhood gathering spaces to ensure residents of all ages and abilities have access to amenities which enhance the lives of city residents.

The park now offers thrilling heights for children ages 5-12, meandering climbing structures and wild slides. Children ages 2-5 will find a colorful geometric structure encouraging agile and exploratory activities.

On the ground level, a wealth of activities such as gently swaying basket swings, seats and hangout pods offer points for socializing and relaxing. A xylophone provides opportunities for sensory play. A large sky-surfer, net and crawl-through tube promote shared smiles and social play. Large signs of positive affirmations and sign language welcome children and their families to this one-of-a-kind playground, which honor’s Jessica’s memory and promotes the powerful message of inclusion and health.

Whispering Pines Park, the 10th inclusive playground in Port St. Lucie, is anticipated to reopen in early 2024. An 11th inclusive playground is nearing completion at the soon-to-be-open Pioneer Park at The Port.

Port St. Lucie Parks & Recreation has over 45 unique parks, four dog parks, two fitness centers and The Saints Golf Course offering amenities for all skill levels. To learn more about the various events and programs, visit www.pslparks.com.
