St. Lucie County Libraries Offer Family Fun in September

Students are back in school, but St. Lucie County libraries continue to provide year-round programming to keep children engaged and entertained.

Children and family activities for September 2023 include:  

  • Scavenger Hunt on Saturday, September 2nd, anytime between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM at the Lewis Branch. Can you find all the clues? Drop in and give it a try.

  • Movie Matinee - Sonic: The Hedgehog 2 (2022) - Saturday, September 2nd at 2:30 PM at the Morningside Branch. An evil duo seeks out a powerful crystal capable of destroying the world, it is up to Sonic and Tails to thwart Dr. Robotnik's schemes. Featuring Ben Schwartz and Jim Carrey, this film is rated PG with a running time of 122 minutes.

  • S.T.E.A.M. Power! Explore the world of science, technology, engineering, art & math in a storytime. Most suited for students kindergarten through 5th grade.
    • Hurston Branch - Saturday, September 2nd at 3:30 PM
    • Lakewood Park Branch - Saturday, September 6th at 4:30 PM
    • Morningside Branch - Saturday, September 9th at 2:30 PM

  • Spy Society - Thursday, September 7th and 21st at 4:00 PM at the Hurston Branch. Train to be a secret agent by participating in fun activities and brain games. Best suited for students in grades 4 and older.

  • Lego at the Library - Saturday, September 9th from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM at the Lewis Branch. Create with Lego blocks at the library. Pictures of all creations will be displayed. Best suited for elementary-age students.

  • "No School Day" Tournament - Wednesday, September 13th at 2:30 PM at Morningside Branch. Test your skills against other players in a Smash Brothers Tournament. Best suited for students in grades 3-8.

  • Bilingual Storytime (Tiempo de Cuentos) - Enjoy a bilingual storytime in both English and Spanish. Most suited for ages 3-5 years. 
    • Lewis Branch - Friday, September 15th at 10:30 AM
    • Morningside Branch - Saturday, September 16th at 10:30 AM

  • Kids Crafternoon - Tuesday, September 19th from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Lewis Branch. All materials supplied. Best suited for students in grades 3-8.

  • Walk-In Programs at the Lakewood Park Branch. Come on in during regular library hours (CLICK HERE for hours) for Grab n’ Go crafts, fall bookmarks, board games and Color Your World. All month long.

Tweens and Teens

  • Anime Multimedia Club - Thursday, September 14th at 4:15 PM at the Morningside Branch. Join us to watch some of the best anime ending themes and rank them on a tier list. Have you seen all the anime these songs are from? This program is best suited for students in grades 6-12.

  • Tween / Teen Crafternoon - Tuesday, September 19th at 3:30 PM at the Morningside Branch. Join us for a fun-filled crafternoon at the library. A variety of supplies will be provided, along with several project ideas. You can follow along with a new craft or work on your own project. So, get your creative juices flowing and enjoy a Tuesday crafternoon with us.

  • Learn How to Draw Comics - Saturday, September 16th from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM at the Lewis Branch. The first of a three-part series. All materials supplied. Best suited for ages 11 – 18.

  • Tween Game Day - Wednesday, September 20th at 4:30 PM at the Lakewood Park Brach. Have a blast with the Nintendo Switch.

  • Switch Teen Video Tournament - Saturday, September 23rd from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM at the Lewis Branch. Who will be victorious? Best suited for ages 11 – 18

  • Teen Crafternoon, Sign Making - Wednesday, September 27th at 4:30 PM at the Lakewood Park Branch. Make your own affirmation bracelets. All supplies provided. Best suited for ages 10 and older.


Weekly Programs

  • Just Baby & Me - Tuesdays (two sessions) at 10:30 AM and 11:00 AM at the Lewis Branch. Songs, stories and movement fun for you and your baby. Best suited for infants up to 1 year

  • Tales & Play - Wednesdays at 10:30 AM at the Morningside Branch. Children ages 0-5 and their caregivers are invited for a story time. Afterward, all are welcome to stay for some open playtime.

  • Crazy 8s Math - every Wednesday in September at 3:30 PM at the Kilmer Branch. Crazy 8’s math club is back for a third season. Join us as we take math concepts and turn them into fun games that will help you learn math in a new and exciting way. Best suited for students in grades 3 – 5.

  • Pre-school Storybook Craft - Children ages 4 and 5 are invited to listen to stories, then join their parents and caregivers for a related craft.
    • Thursdays at 10:30 AM at the Lakewood Park Branch
    • Fridays at 10:30 AM the Hurston Branch

  • Music & Motion for Kids - Action songs, movement, singing, instruments and fun for children 5 and under with a caregiver.
    • Second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 9:00 AM at the Port St. Lucie Branch
    • Wednesdays (two sessions) at 10:30 AM and 11:00 AM at the Lewis Branch
    • Fridays at 10:30 AM at the Lakewood Park Branch and the Morningside Branch

  • Storytime Jam at 10:30 AM - Clap, dance and listen to stories. For ages 3-5.
    • Tuesdays at the Lakewood Park Branch
    • Wednesdays at the Kilmer Branch
    • Thursdays at the Hurston Branch
    • Fridays at the Morningside Branch
    • Fridays at the Lewis Branch
