Tradition Transitions to St. Lucie Public Schools

SAINT LUCIE COUNY, FL - Palm Pointe Educational Research School at Tradition, a renowned charter research lab school under Florida Atlantic University (FAU), is excited to announce an upcoming transition. After careful consideration and mutual agreement, both St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) and FAU have decided that it is in the best interest of both parties to dissolve their long-standing relationship. This transition will go into effect in July 2024.

Throughout its history, Palm Pointe Educational Research School at Tradition has been recognized as a model of educational excellence, combining innovative teaching practices with cutting-edge research. As a result of this transition, Palm Pointe will operate as a regular St. Lucie Public School while continuing to provide invaluable educational opportunities to students in the local community.

Despite this change, we are pleased to announce that the university research component and the placement of student teachers from FAU will remain integral to Palm Pointe's educational program. By maintaining these partnerships, Palm Pointe will continue to offer students a unique learning environment that combines the expertise of St. Lucie Public Schools and the research initiatives of FAU.

One of the essential considerations in this transition is the impact on the students currently enrolled at Palm Pointe. All students currently enrolled, including the incoming 2023-2024 Kindergarten class, will be able to remain at Palm Pointe until they matriculate out, ensuring a seamless educational journey for all students.

The transition to becoming a St. Lucie Public School will open new avenues for collaboration and resource sharing, ultimately enhancing the educational experience for all students. By aligning with the St. Lucie Public School district, Palm Pointe will have access to a vast array of resources, including comprehensive curricula, specialized programs, and a dedicated network of educators committed to student success.

An important point to note is that starting with the 2024-2025 School Year, enrollment for open seats and incoming Kindergartens will follow regular SLPS enrollment protocols, rather than the previously used lottery system, and be open to students in the school’s zone with priority being given to student in close proximity.

"We are excited about the opportunities that this transition brings to Palm Pointe and the School District," said Dr. Jon R. Prince, Superintendent of St. Lucie Public Schools. “Palm Pointe K8 is already a district-managed charter school, with a history of excellence that is staffed with district employees, and we look forward to positive and productive collaboration in the win-win agreement.” The Principal of Palm Pointe Educational Research School at Tradition, Kathleen Perez commented, "Becoming part of St. Lucie Public Schools will allow us to continue our tradition of excellence while expanding our educational offerings and fostering a strong sense of community with the local neighborhood."

Moving forward, Palm Pointe will work closely with St. Lucie Public Schools to ensure a smooth transition and provide updates to students, parents, and the wider community. We remain committed to maintaining the high standards of education and research that have defined Palm Pointe throughout its history.
