The Treasure Coast Disc Golf Club has partnered with the St. Lucie County Library System to offer disc golf bags and discs available for checkout at all six branch libraries.
Several companies, including Grip Equipment, Rogue Iron and MVP Discs have donated new discs and bags/backpacks, while members of the Treasure Coast Disc Golf Club donated slightly used discs to be part of this program. These bags include a laminated tag with a QR code that links to a webpage with a list of public disc golf courses throughout Indian River, St. Lucie and Martin counties. All six St. Lucie County Branch Libraries have two different disc golf bags each with six to eight different discs available for checkout.
“About a year ago, our club added lost and found boxes at nearly all of our courses throughout the Treasure Coast, so if players find lost discs on a course, they can drop them in the box, and we work to return them to the proper owner. While most of them are returned, we do have a collection of discs that have been donated or unclaimed, so this is a great way to keep those discs flying and offer an easy way for people to try out the sport before spending any money on equipment,” said Treasure Coast Disc Golf President David Keith. “It’s also a great way for newer players to try out different discs.”
Like all library items, residents must have a valid St. Lucie County library card to check out a disc golf bag, which is available to use for two weeks. Members of the Treasure Coast Disc Golf Club are working to schedule future disc golf clinics with the St. Lucie County Library System and in the past have hosted Intro to Disc Golf hikes through St. Lucie County’s guide hikes program offered by the Environmental Resources Department.
