Savannas Preserve State Park is proud to host another Star Party (gathering of friends and other like-minded people to observe the night sky) with beloved members of the Treasure Coast Astronomical Society. The event will take place on Saturday, June 24, 2023, from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM and all ages are welcome. Participants should come in through the main park entrance at 2541 SW Walton Road, Port St. Lucie 34952.
Pending clear skies, the hope is to view the moon, Mars, Venus, and some well known constellations. Bring your cellphone to take pictures through the telescope.
Telescopes will be provided, however, you may bring your own or a pair of binoculars.
This event is free with paid park admission. The summer discount admission price is $2 per vehicle. Reservations are not necessary, however, you can reserve your free tickets on Eventbrite.com to help organizers plan. Reserving in this way does not cover the park admission fee. You can pay your park admission fee as follows:
- In person with exact cash
- Please take a blue envelope from the honor box and put exact change in envelope before dropping in box.
- Hang the blue hanger from your windshield and park in the designated parking to the right.
- Cashless entry, online prior to arrival at reserve.floridastateparks.org/Web/Memberships/CustomerMembershipPasses.aspx
- If using an online day pass, please write your day pass number on the blue envelope and drop in the honor box before hanging the blue hanger in the window.
Things to Consider:
- Bug spray is HIGHLY recommended as this event takes place at dusk/after dark and the Preserve is near a marsh.
- Restrooms are available via a port-o-potty near the pavilion.
- The event takes place after dark, so please take caution and bring red lights (preferred) or sparingly use flashlights directed to the ground so as not to disturb night vision.
- If this is your first star party, please read over some common S๏ปฟtar Party Etiquette tips at: www.go-astronomy.com/articles/star-party-etiquette.htm.
