St. Lucie County Libraries Ramp Up Children’s Programs for Summer

Just because students are on summer break doesn’t mean they can’t still learn and have fun. The St. Lucie County Library System offers a variety of entertaining educational activities for the whole family.

Activities for June include:

  • Family Story Time at 10:30 AM
    • Mondays at the Pruitt Campus
    • Tuesdays at the Lakewood Park Branch
    • Wednesdays at the Kilmer Branch
    • Thursdays at the Hurston Branch
    • Fridays at the Morningside Branch

  • Preschool Storybook Craft at 10:30 AM. Listen to stories and stay to create a fun craft.
    • Thursdays at the Lakewood Park Branch
    • Fridays at the Hurston Branch

  • Music & Motion for Kids. This program features songs, movement, singing, instruments and fund for ages under 6 with a caregiver
    • Wednesdays at 10:30 AM and 11:00 AM at the Lewis Branch  
    • Fridays at 10:30 AM at the Lakewood Park Branch
    • Saturdays at 10:30 AM at the Morningside Branch

  • Summer Reading Blastoff on Saturday, June 3, 2023. Kick off summer reading at the library with fun filled activities for children of all ages.

    • Lakewood Park Branch at 2:00 PM

  • S.T.E.A.M. Power on Saturday, June 3rd, at 3:00 PM at the Hurston Branch. Explore the world of science, technology, engineering, art & math in fun ways.

  • Family Fun Activity: Story Walk on Wednesday, June 7th, at 10:30 AM at the Morningside Branch. Come by the library and participate in a story walk, sidewalk art, crafts and more.

  • Family Fun Activity: Make Minecraft creepers and critters on Wednesday, June 7th, at 2:00 PM at the Lakewood Park Branch. Design and build Minecraft Creepers and cube critters and don’t miss the scavenger hunt.  

  • Family Fun Activity: Let’s Make Slime on Wednesday, June 7th, at 3:00 PM at the Hurston Branch. Come by the library and make slippery, stretchy, gooey slime.

  • Movie Matinee: “Strange World” on Thursday, June 8th, at 10:00 AM at the Lewis Branch. The legendary Clades family takes a journey deep into uncharted lands. This movie is rated PG with a running time of 102 minutes.

  • Bilingual Story Time / Tiempo de Cuentos on Thursday, June 8th, at 10:30 AM at the Morningside Branch. Enjoy story time in both English and Spanish.

  • Family Fun Activity: Fun for All on Friday, June 9th, at 10:00 AM at the Kilmer Branch. Join us for a fun-filled adventure of awesome activities for kids of all ages.

  • Printable Activities for Kids on Friday, June 9th, at 10:00 AM at the Lewis Branch. Enjoy an hour of fun with coloring sheets, crossword puzzles, word games and more. All materials supplied.

    Gopher Tortoise Story Time on Wednesday, June 14th, at 10:30 AM at the Morningisde Branch. Presented by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Park Ranger Melaina will share the importance of the gopher tortoise in Florida using lots of fun activities.

  • Family Fun Activity: Make a Dream Catcher on Wednesday, June 14th, at 2:00 PM at the Lakewood Park Branch. Make your very own paper plate dreamcatcher. All supplies will be provided, just bring your creativity.

  • Family Fun Activity: LEGO Challenge on Wednesday, June 14th, at 3:00 PM at the Hurston Branch. Using LEGOS, we will build vehicles to travel down ziplines to explore slopes, tension, and gravity. Bring your creativity and imagination.

  • Movie Matinee: “Rock Dog 3: Battle of the Beat” on Thursday, June 15th, at 10:00 AM at the Lewis Branch. When the young performers on a music contest show admit they have never heard of Angus Scattergood, Bodi is compelled to join the show to restore the Rock Legend's good name. This animated feature is rated PG with a running time of 90 minutes.

  • Oxbow Eco Center presents: Scales & Smiles on Friday, June 16th, at 10:00 AM at the Kilmer Branch. Meet and greet a new set of friends – the kind with scales. Discover what makes reptiles an amazing group of animals and their important place in ecosystems.

  • Bilingual Story Time / Tiempo de Cuentos on Friday, June 16th, at 10:30 AM at the Lewis Branch. Enjoy bilingual story time in both English and Spanish.

  • Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 17th at the Hurston Branch. Drop in between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM to make bracelets, buttons and other crafts to celebrate the emancipation of enslaved people. While supplies last.

  • Dance Me a Story with the Florida Arts & Dance Company on Wednesday, June 21st, at 10:30 AM at the Morningside Branch. Florida Arts & Dance Company will be “Bringing a Book to Life” in a special story time.

  • Family Fun Activity: LEGO Fun on Wednesday, June 21st, at 2:00 PM at the Lakewood Park Branch. Participate in a LEGO challenge at the library.

  • Family Fun Activity: Make a Catapult on Wednesday, June 21st, at 3:00 PM at the Hurston Branch. Come by the library and make your very own catapult.

  • Movie Matinee: “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” on Thursday, June 22nd, at 10:00 AM at the Lewis Branch. Puss in Boots has discovered his passion for adventure has burned through eight of his nine lives. Puss sets out to find the mythical Last Wish and restore his nine lives. This animated feature is rated PG with a running time of 100 minutes.

  • Family Fun Activity: Fun for All on Friday, June 23rd, at 10:00 AM at the Kilmer Branch. Join us for a fun-filled adventure of awesome activities for kids of all ages.

  • Family Fun Activity: LEGO Fun Friday, June 23rd, at 10:30 AM at the Lewis Branch. Let your imagination run wild with lots and lots of LEGOS.

  • Family Fun Activity: Board Games Galore on Friday, June 23rd, at 3:00 PM at the Hurston Branch. Join us at the library to play all types of fun and engaging board games.

  • Family Fun Activity: Craft with Me - “Red, White & Blue” on Wednesday, June 28th, at 10:30 AM at the Morningside Branch. Join us and Joell from Joell’s Face Painting as we create a patriotic craft to celebrate our nation’s birthday.

  • Family Fun Activity: Art and Robotics on Wednesday, June 28th, at 2:00 PM at the Lakewood Park Branch. Have a blast with art and robotics. Meet Artie and the Ozobots and learn to code with infinite ways to create, learn and share this summer.

  • Movie Matinee: “Sing 2” on Thursday, June 29th, at 10:00 AM at the Lewis Branch. Buster Moon and his friends must persuade reclusive rock star Clay Calloway to join them for the opening of a new show. This animated feature is rated PG with a running time of 112 minutes.

  • Family Fun Activity: Storybook Putt Putt on Friday, June 30th, at 10:00 AM at the Kilmer Branch. Come by the library for a round of story book golf. Suitable for all ages.

  • Movie Matinee: “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run” on Friday, June 30th, at 3:00 PM at the Hurston Branch. When Gary turns up missing, SpongeBob believes that his pet has been stolen. With the help of his pal Patrick, SpongeBob ventures to the Lost City of Atlantic City to rescue his pet. This movie is rated PG with a running time of 96 minutes.

Don’t forget to take part in the Adventures in S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering, art and math) “grab and go” activity bags. Beginning Monday, June 5th, families can stop by any branch library and pick up a S.T.E.A.M-related home activity kit. Best suited for ages 5 to 10, all materials are supplied. Don’t miss the six different projects, spread out over the six weeks of summer.  

St. Lucie County’s Summer Reading Challenge is sponsored by the Friends of the Library, the St. Lucie County Children Services Council, St. Lucie Reads and St. Lucie County Parks & Recreation.
