Find Family Fun At St. Lucie County Libraries This May

Get a jump start on your family’s summer reading by checking out the variety of family events and programs offered at St. Lucie County libraries.

Children and family activities for May 2023 include:  

  • Kids Crafternoon on Tuesday, May 2nd from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM at Morningside Branch. Enjoy an afternoon of making your own kaleidoscope. Best suited for kids in grades 3-8.

  • Scavenger Hunt on Saturday, May 6th, anytime between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM at the Lewis Branch. Can you find all the clues? Drop in and give it a try.

  • S.T.E.A.M. Power! Explore the world of science, technology, engineering, art & math in a storytime. Most suited for students kindergarten through 5th grade.
    • Lakewood Park Branch - Saturday, May 6th at 3:30 PM
    • Morningside Branch - Saturday, May 6th at 2:30 PM
    • Hurston Branch - Saturday, May 6th at 3:00 PM

  • Bilingual Storytime (Tiempo de Cuentos) - Enjoy a bilingual storytime in both English and Spanish. Most suited for ages 3-5 years. 
    • Morningside Branch - Thursday, May 11th at 10:30 AM
    • Lewis Branch - Friday, May 19th at 10:30 AM

  • Morning Movie Matinee:  Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022) - Saturday, May 13th at 10:30 AM at the Morningside Branch. Puss in Boots discovers that his passion for adventure has taken its toll: He has burned through eight of his nine lives. Puss sets out on an epic journey to find the mythical Last Wish to restore his nine lives. This animated feature is rated PG with a running time of 100 minutes.

  • Kids Crafternoon - Tuesday, May 16th from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Lewis Branch. All materials supplied. Best suited for students in grades 3-8.

  • Oreo Taste Testing - Wednesday, May 16th at 2:00 PM at the Kilmer Branch. Have you ever wanted to try some of the unique flavors of Oreos? Now you can. Come and try several different flavors of Oreos with several options for milk. Your taste buds will love it. Suitable for all ages.

  • Early Release Extreme S.T.E.A.M.  - Wednesday, May 31st at 2:00 PM at the Lakewood Park Branch. Come on in and create some unique parachutes and paper airplanes. Don’t miss testing them out with the group. All supplies provided.

Tweens and Teens

  • Anime Multimedia Club at the Morningside Branch. National Comic Book Day is in May. Bring in your favorite manga to show other fans. Your favorites will get write-ups or a library display. Best suited for grades 6-12.

  • Tween Game Day - Tuesday, May 9th at 4:00 PM at the Lakewood Park Brach. Have a blast with the Nintendo Switch.

  • Teen Crafternoon, Sign Making - Thursday, May 18th at 4:30 PM at the Lakewood Park Branch. Design and decorate your own creative ice cream signs. All supplies provided.

  • Make Your Own Soap - Saturday, May 20th from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM at the Lewis Branch. Join Sammy and Bethany for instructions on how to make soap. All materials supplied. Best suited for ages 11 – 18.

  • Smash Bros. on Switch Teen Video Tournament - Saturday, May 27th from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM at the Lewis Branch. Who will be victorious? Best suited for ages 11 – 18

  • Smash Bros. Tournament - Wednesday, May 31st at 2:30 PM at the Morningside Branch. Face off as your favorite video game characters in a “Smash Bros” tournament for the ages. Best suited for grades 6-12.

Walk-In Programs

  • Tween Tech Challenge at the Lakewood Park Branch. The Tween Tech Challenge is a chance to test your skills with computers and technology. This self-guided challenge takes about an hour to complete and can be done at your leisure. Go it alone or work together to master this month’s challenge.

  • Poetry Creation Station at the Lakewood Park Branch. Create a poem or two to take with you or decorate the branch. All supplies provided.

Weekly Programs

  • Just Baby & Me on Tuesdays at the Lewis Branch. Songs, stories and movement fun for you and your baby. Best suited for infants up to 1 year

  • Rhythm & Rhyme Storytime on Wednesdays at 10:30 AM at the Morningside Branch. Early literacy through rhymes, stories, movement and more. For ages 2 1/2 years and older.

  • Storytime Jam at 10:30 AM - Clap, dance and listen to stories. For ages 3-5.
    • Tuesdays at the Lakewood Park Branch
    • Wednesdays at the Kilmer Branch
    • Thursdays at the Hurston Branch
    • Fridays at the Morningside Branch
    • Fridays at the Lewis Branch

  • Music & Motion for Kids at 10:30 AM - Action songs, movement, singing, instruments and fun for ages under 6 with a caregiver.
    • Wednesdays at the Lewis Branch
    • Fridays at the Lakewood Park Branch
    • Third Saturday of the month at the Morningside Branch

  • Pre-school Storybook Craft at 10:30 AM - Children ages 4 and 5 are invited to listen to stories, then join their parents and caregivers for a related craft.
    • Thursdays at the Lakewood Park Branch
    • Fridays at the Hurston Branch
