Spring is in the air, which means the City of Port St. Lucie Parks & Recreation Department is offering a wide range of programs for residents of all ages and abilities. Participating in recreational activities is a wonderful way to improve physical health, mental well-being and social connections.
Whether you enjoy running, outdoor games, or simply soaking up the Florida sunshine, there is something for everyone in these programs. With the option to register and pay for classes and programs online, it's easy to begin exploring recreational activities' many benefits.
“We’re happy to provide an array of Spring programs that involve physical activity and connecting with nature. These programs are aimed at promoting overall health and well-being,” said CJ Keester, Recreation Manager. “Whether you prefer indoor or outdoor activities, there are options available to suit your interests. If you're looking to get active and meet new people, the City of Port St. Lucie Parks and Recreation's programs are a great way to do so.”
Connect with nature
1. Participate in outdoor activities such as PSL Roadrunners Academy. This five-week program focuses on conditioning exercises to prepare participants for a middle-distance running event (from 1/2 mile to 2 miles). The program will be held Mondays and Thursdays from 6–7 p.m. at Sportsman’s Park West, 220 NW Irving St. This program is designed for beginner to intermediate-level middle-distance runners. The cost is $50 per 10 class session.
Get in the game and be social
2. Improve your cardiovascular health and coordination with the new, Glow Up Pickelball! The MIDFLORIDA Gymnasium will be transformed into a luminous, 6-court, pickleball arena. Bring your friends and make new ones as you play multiple pick-up matches. Wear your white and/or fluorescent clothes, so your killer serve isn't the only thing that stands out! Bring your own paddles, or borrow a pair from us. Space is limited, so pre-register for your two-hour timeslot! The cost is $10.00 for a two-hour session. Improve confidence and endurance
3. Increase flexibility, stamina and spatial awareness with baton twirling. M&M Sweeties will allow your child to march in parades, learn how to twirl, and most importantly, develop self-confidence, coordination and good sportsmanship. Ages 4 and older. Participants meet Wednesdays, 6:30-7:30 p.m. at MIDFLORIDA Event Center and Thursdays, 5-6 p.m. at Minsky Gym.
Learn the basics
4. Learn2Sports introduces 3-5-year-olds to basic techniques and motor skills involved in playing sports. Register your child for baseball or football. All activities will be adaptable to the participant's abilities. Register online or in person at Minsky Gym at 772-344-4142. Space is limited.
Bump your way into Spring
5. Serve your best game in the Volleyball Mini Camp, which focuses on volleyball skills, including passing, setting, spiking, serving and game knowledge. Mini Camp is coached by Melissa Piazza. Space is limited so register early. For more information, contact Minsky Gym at 772-344-4142.
