St. Lucie County’s Aquatics Division will offer an American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Course on Friday, January 27, 2023 through Sunday, January 29th at the Ravenswood Pool.
The cost for this course is $75. Successful completion of this course certifies participants in lifeguarding procedures such as standard first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), automated external defibrillators (AED), emergency oxygen administration and blood-borne pathogens training. The certification is valid for two years.
Participants must be at least 16 years old (please bring a form of ID for proof of age). If under 18 - participants must have parent’s signature. Additionally, participants must be able to swim continuously for 300 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. Participants must be able to swim 20 yards, surface dive in a minimum of six feet of water, swim along the bottom for 10-15 feet to retrieve a 10-pound brick from the bottom of the pool and swim back 20 yards with the brick and exit the pool without using the steps or ladder within one minute and 40 seconds; as well as tread water for two-minutes using legs only.
The lifeguard certification course will take place Friday, January 27th from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM; Saturday, January 28th from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM; and Sunday, January 29th from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Managed by St. Lucie County’s Parks & Recreation Department, the Ravenswood Pool is located at 400 SW Ravenswood Lane, Port St. Lucie.
American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification is required to be employed as a lifeguard at all three of St. Lucie County’s public pools.
