Experience snapshots of Florida’s history on the newly updated Heritage Trail at the Oxbow Eco-Center’s preserve. Beginning with prehistoric Florida, travel through nine highlighted time periods and end with St. Lucie County’s preserved lands of today.
Guests can admire the modern metal artwork at each station and scan the QR code to view a video clip of sights and sounds from each era. The quarter-mile Heritage Trail is easily accessed from the main parking area and is stroller friendly.
Other trails and boardwalks at the Oxbow lead visitors through natural pine uplands, along the North Fork of the St. Lucie River and around ephemeral marshes. Two viewing platforms and a lookout tower provide unique experiences along the 3.5 miles of trails. Trail maps can be found at each trailhead and the eco-center front porch. Dogs are welcome on all Oxbow trails, but must remain leashed at all times and waste must be picked up and disposed of properly. Waste bags are provided at trailheads.
The Oxbow is one of two dozen nature preserves managed by St. Lucie County. Preserves are open daily from sunrise to sunset and admission is free. Learn more at: www.StLuciePreserves.com.
