Family Fun Available at St. Lucie County Libraries Year Round

Expose your family to the thrill of early literacy programs as St. Lucie County Libraries offer a host of activities to keep families engaged.

Children and family activities for January include:  

  • S.T.E.A.M. Power! Explore the world of science, technology, engineering, art & math in a storytime. Most suited for students kindergarten through 5th grade.
    • Lakewood Park Branch – Thursday, January 5, 2023 at 3:30 PM
    • Morningside Branch - Saturday, January 7th at 2:30 PM
    • Lewis Branch - Saturday, January 14th at 2:30 PM

  • Movie Matinee
    • DC League of Super Pets” (2022) on Saturday, January 7th at 2:30 PM at the Lewis Branch. Superman and his canine pal, Krypto, are inseparable. But, when Superman and the rest of the Justice League are kidnapped, it’s up to Krypto and a group of shelter dogs to save the super friends. This animated feature is rated PG with a running time of 105 minutes.

    • Lyle, Lyle Crocodile” on Saturday, January 14th at 2:30 PM at the Morningside Branch. Based on the children's book by Bernard Waber, this live-action film follows a singing crocodile that lives in New York City. The movie is rated PG with a running time of 106 minutes.

  • LEGO Free Play - Saturday, January 7th at 3:00 PM at the Hurston Branch. Let your imagination run wild with lots of Legos. Best suited for grades K-5.

  • Bilingual Storytime - Enjoy a bilingual storytime in both English and Spanish. Most suited for ages 3-5 years. 
    • Thursday, January 12th at 10:30 AM at the Morningside Branch.
    • Friday, January 20th at 10:30 AM at the Lewis Branch.

  • Kids Crafternoon on Tuesday, January 17th at 4:00 PM at the Lewis Branch. Designed for students in grades 3-8, families can enjoy an afternoon making festive fall decorations. All materials supplied.

  • Crazy 8’s Math Club is back at the Kilmer Branch on Thursday, January 19th and Thursday, January 26th at 3:30 PM. The second season of the Crazy 8’s Math Club will run for eight weeks starting January 19th. Join us for Neon City, Super Cube Shuffle and many more fun math activities. Best suited for grades 3-5.

  • Music and Motion - Saturday, January 21st at 10:30 AM at the Morningside Library. The whole family is encouraged to participate in singing, dancing and playing instruments.

  • Snow Much Fun Saturday Storytime - Saturday, January 28th at 10:30 AM at the Morningside Library. Chill at the library with some cool books and songs, while making a snowman craft.

Tweens and Teens

  • Tween Game Day - Tuesday, January 10th at 4:00 PM at the Lakewood Park Branch. Have a blast competing against others on the Nintendo Switch.

  • Anime Multimedia Club - Tuesday, January 10th at 4:30 PM at the Morningside Branch. Join library staff for the debut of the Anime Club, where participants will make Omamori (New Year’s Charms) and meet other anime fans. This program is best suited for grades 6-12.

  • Teen Crafternoon - Thursday, January 19th at 4:30 PM at the Lakewood Park Branch. Design an artistic mug for the holidays. Best suited for grades 5 and up. All supplies provided.

  • Introduction to Drawing Anime - Saturday, January 21st from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM at the Lewis Branch. Join library staff for instruction on how to draw anime. All materials supplied. Best suited for ages 11 to 18.

  • Mario Kart on Switch Teen Video Game Tournament - Saturday, January 28th from 2:30 PM – 4:30 PM at the Lewis Branch. Best suited for ages 11 – 18.

  • Pokken Teen Video Game Tournament - Saturday, January 28th from 2:30 PM – 4:30 PM at the Lewis Branch. Who will be victorious? Best suited for ages 11 – 18.

Weekly Programs

  • Family Storytime on Mondays at the Pruitt Campus Library (no storytime on January 2nd or January 16th due to the holidays). Designed for children up to age 5, but all ages are welcome.

  • Rhythm & Rhyme Storytime on Wednesdays at 10:30 AM at the Morningside Library. Early literacy through rhymes, stories, movement and more. For ages 2 1/2 years and older.

  • Storytime Jam at 10:30 AM - Clap, dance and listen to stories. For ages 3-5.
    • Tuesdays at the Lakewood Park Branch
    • Wednesdays at the Kilmer Branch
    • Thursdays at the Hurston Branch
    • Fridays at the Morningside Branch
    • Fridays at the Lewis Branch

  • Music & Motion for Kids at 10:30 AM - Action songs, movement, singing, instruments and fun for ages under 6 with a caregiver.
    • Wednesdays at the Lewis Branch
    • Fridays at the Lakewood Park Branch
    • Third Saturday of the month at the Morningside Branch

  • Pre-school Storybook Craft at 10:30 AM - Children ages 4 and 5 are invited to listen to stories, then join their parents and caregivers for a related craft.
    • Thursdays at the Lakewood Park Branch
    • Fridays at the Hurston Branch
