St. Lucie Public Schools Superintendent to
Retire at the End of the 2021-2022 School Year
St. Lucie Public Schools Superintendent, E. Wayne Gent, announced his intent to retire at the end of the 2021-2022 school year, which is June 30, 2022. Superintendent Gent has proudly served in public education in the state of Florida for 45 years, with the last eleven years as Superintendent; four years in the School District of Palm Beach County, and seven years in St. Lucie Public Schools.
“I was saddened to hear the news that Wayne Gent was retiring. He has been an incredible Superintendent for SLPS. Under his great leadership, we have accomplished many academic successes. Our graduation rate is at an all-time high and the number of Career and Technical Education Industry Certifications earned by students has skyrocketed 164% over the past 5 years. On behalf of the St. Lucie County School Board, he will be deeply missed, and it will be hard to fill his shoes.” commented School Board Chair Dr. Donna Mills.
School Board Vice Chair Troy Ingersoll added, “Superintendent Gent has done an amazing job leading the School District. Under his leadership, the School District has transformed into an organization that the entire community can be proud of.”
