Cheers, hugs and applause were shared by the school teams at Allapattah Flats K8 and C.A. Moore Elementary, as their leaders, Principal Ana Rodriguez-Oronoz and Principal Latricia Stubbs, were surprised with the news that they are, respectively, the 2019-2020 Outstanding Principal and Assistant Principal for St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS).
Rodriguez-Oronoz and Stubbs are both veteran educators in SLPS and were selected to represent SLPS for the academic gains achieved and the positive teaching and learning environments at their schools last year. Ana Rodriguez-Oronoz remains at Allapattah Flats where she has been the principal for the past four years while Latricia Stubbs was the assistant principal at St. Lucie Elementary School last year before moving to C.A. Moore this year as Interim Principal.
“These outstanding school leaders are changing the lives of boys and girls every day. Both administrators have a proven track record of establishing and maintaining a collaborative and positive school culture,” said Superintendent E. Wayne Gent. “Great leaders are learners and both Ms. Rodriguez-Oronoz and Ms. Stubbs are no strangers to professional learning. Their tenacity enables them to quickly implement research-based, best practices in their schools.”
Both nominations from SLPS will be shared with the Florida Department of Education’s statewide pool of nominees. State winners will be announced later this year. The Principal Achievement Award for Outstanding Leadership was established in 1988 to recognize Florida principals for contributions to their schools and their communities. The Outstanding Assistant Principal Achievement Award was established in 1997 to honor assistant principals who have utilized teamwork and leadership to increase student achievement and greatly improve school environments.
