St. Lucie County’s Offers Virtual Guided Hikes

November 13, 2020

St. Lucie County’s Environmental Resources Department is pleased to announce that selected Guided Nature Programs are coming to a screen near you. Current topics found on the www.slchikes.org web page include St. Lucie County’s beautiful “Air Plants,” the exciting world of “Birding,” and the “Backpacking” program explains how to explore the woods safely. These free virtual programs are designed to safely enhance field experiences during the pandemic with additional videos to be added throughout the season.

For those who are feeling a little more adventurous or need to get outside, socially distanced, in-person Guided Nature Programs will resume at the end of the year. In-person programs are designed for participants age 12 and older unless otherwise noted; an adult must accompany all minors. Space is limited to eight participants and reservations are required. A mask and proper footwear, as well as water, are mandatory for all programs.

For more information, please visit www.slchikes.org, call 772-462-2536, or email slchikes@stlucieco.org. Registration for in-person programs will begin in late November.

St. Lucie County manages more than two dozen preserves, purchased through a voter-approved bond referendum. Preserves are open to the public daily sunrise to sunset for passive recreation and are free to visit.
