St. Lucie County, Children's Services Council Partner to
Support School-Day Learning For Families Affected by COVID-19

In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, local parents are being asked to make difficult decisions about the safety and education of their children. To offer support to parents who have chosen St. Lucie Public School’s MySchool virtual option, St. Lucie County and the Children’s Services Council are working with local afterschool providers to facilitate Learning Launchpad locations throughout the community.

The goal of the program is to offer parents a free option for their child during the school day to attend one of the many local youth development organizations where their child can participate in virtual learning outside of their home but remain in a safe environment with trained staff to assist them. Each location will be equipped based on current CDC guidelines to appropriately space youth, provide personal protective equipment, and cleaning/sanitation supplies for staff. Students will be placed in groups of 9 youth to 1 staff member.

The St. Lucie County Board of County Commissioners is partnering with Children’s Services Council in providing funding for this unique program through the CARES Act funds, which were allocated to the county this past spring.

In order to qualify for the program, families must be deemed essential employees or earn under 120% of the area’s median income; the threshold for a family of 4 is $83,400. Eligibility information and a list of the documents required to register can be found on the Children’s Services Council website. Individual Learning Launchpad locations are responsible for confirming eligibility and registering each child. The number of seats available at each location will vary and are extremely limited. Please visit www.cscslc.org for more information.

The Children’s Services Council of St. Lucie County improves the lives of more than 50,000 children and families in our community by funding and partnering with quality agencies to ensure that every baby is a healthy baby, to stop child abuse before it happens, to keep kids off the streets, to keep them in school, and to keep them away from drugs, alcohol and other risky behaviors.
