Lincoln Park Community Center Hosts Juneteenth Peace Walk

June 17, 2021

The Lincoln Park Community Center will host the 21st Annual Juneteenth Celebration of Freedom Peace and Unity Walk on Friday, June 18, 2021, promoting peace and unity in the community.

All are welcome to participate in this Juneteenth event celebrating freedom for all. Line-up will begin at 8:30 AM at 19th Street and Avenue D. The walk begins at 9:00 AM.

Juneteenth is an annual celebration that commemorates the ending of slavery in the United States. Although President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation to free all slaves and made the abolition of slavery effective on January 1, 1863; the news of the emancipation didn’t reach slaves in Texas until June 19, 1865 – nearly two and a half years later.

Located at 1306 Avenue M in Fort Pierce, the Lincoln Park Community Center is managed and operated by the St. Lucie County Parks, Recreation and Facilities Department. For more information about the center and all of its activities call 772-462-1788.
