Chili Cook Off Will Not Be Skipped

Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County move forward with Annual Chili Cookoff

June 11, 2020

With the re-opening of Florida, Boys and Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County (BGCSLC) has made the decision to keep with tradition and host the 38th Annual Chili Cook-off on July 11, 2020. The event and quest for bragging rights to the best chili in St. Lucie County will be brought outside to Causeway Cove Marina for social distancing purposes.

“The Chili Cook-off is an event that the entire community looks forward to every year, and we plan to deliver the experience and excitement that everyone is accustomed to.” said Will Armstead, BGCSLC Chief Executive Officer. “We are taking extraordinary measures to ensure the health and safety of our teams, attendees and staff members by adhering to the State’s guideline,” Armstead stated.

The theme of the 38th Annual Chili Cook-off is 1994, as this is the year that commemorates BGCSLC’s 25th Anniversary. So, plan to take a trip back in time to as our teams bring to life classic movies such as “The Lion King” and “Pulp Fiction,” portray the year’s most popular artists Price and the All American, Bruce Springsteen.

Festivities will begin at 5:00 PM under a spacious tent to shield the hot summer sun and include entertainment, kid friendly activities along with a helicopter ball drop for a chance for one lucky winner to walk away with a cash prize. And, course, it wouldn’t be the Chili Cook-off without a chili eating contest.

At 9:00 PM the cook-off will officially close, but the drive-in theatre will open. A surprise throwback 1994 movie will be shown on the big screen, reminiscent of days gone by. So, bring your blankets and lawn chairs, the event is free to all.

Limited team spaces are available for $300 and pre-event fundraising has begun. As a never been done before bonus, chili will not be made on site. Create your award-winning batch from the comfort of your own home. Just remember, no beans.

Teams can sign up to participate in all the festivities and this year because of the social distancing, individuals can serve as a team by signing up at https://bgcslc.rocks/chiliteams. BGCSLC has all the tools to help you be successful.
