Spreading sunshine over Port St. Lucie with a Sunflower Scavenger Hunt

May 21, 2020

Keep Port St. Lucie Beautiful has teamed up with a local nonprofit organization called Team Miranda Strong to organize a special scavenger hunt to spread beauty and raise awareness for issues surrounding asthma and allergies.

Miranda DeOnofrio, a Port St. Lucie High School alumnus, was a junior attending the University of Central Florida when she suffered a fatal asthma attack, a condition she was unaware she had. “Miranda would have loved this idea. We have the most amazing volunteer team, all who have loved Miranda so much. We appreciate City officials allowing us to do this,” said Miranda’s mother, Susan DeOnofrio.

“Team Miranda Strong wishes to share beauty while raising awareness on a very important health concern. Creating beauty is what we are all about. Keep Port St. Lucie Beautiful loves to do #DoBeautifulThings and this fun creative sunflower project is doing exactly that!” said Georgette Beck, Special Project Coordinator of Keep Port St. Lucie Beautiful.

Team Miranda strong honors Miranda’s memory and love of sunflowers with a tribute of sunflower pinwheels that will adorn City parks along with painted sunflower rocks. Each flower will have a tag, named after a child, gone too. Residents are asked to not remove the pinwheels but are free to take pictures and tag TMS Sunflower Scavenger Hunt and the City of Port St. Lucie’s Facebook pages.
