St. Lucie County has lifted many of the COVID-19 restrictions on public beaches, effective Thursday, May 7, 2020. However, beachgoers are advised to continue practicing social distancing, limiting groups to less than 10 people, and maintaining a six-foot distance between others outside their immediate family.
Last week, St. Lucie County reopened its 21 miles of beaches for only physical recreation. Residents and visitors can now bring coolers, tents, blankets, umbrellas, and beach chairs, as well as resume sunbathing on public beaches.
St. Lucie County’s Marine Safety Division encourages all residents and visitors to swim at lifeguarded beaches. Pepper Park Beach, 3302 North A1A, North Hutchinson Island, and Waveland Beach, 10350 South Ocean Drive, South Hutchinson Island, have lifeguards on duty from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily. St. Lucie County’s Marine Safety provides coverage at South Beach Park, 800 South Ocean Drive, on Saturdays and Sundays.
For updated daily beach conditions, please call the St. Lucie County Beach Conditions Hotline at 772-462-1421 after 10:30 AM.
As a reminder, pets and alcohol are not permitted at the beaches. In addition, fires or private grills are not allowed.
Horsebacking riding on the beach has resumed at Fredrick Douglass Park Memorial Park, 3500 South A1A, Fort Pierce, both for the Tours on Horseback and individual permit holders. Those with annual permits to ride on the beach will be provided a 41-day extension from the time their certificate expires.
