Get Your Kids to Start Coding at Lakewood Park Library

Teach your children to start coding at the Lakewood Park Branch Library on Saturday, Feb. 1 and 8 at 3 p.m. with “Starting from Scratch.”

Scratch is a block-based visual programming language and online community designed for children by the MIT Media Lab. Users can create projects like interactive stories, games and animations. This program is best suited for student in grades 6 through 9.

Other family events include:

  • Rhythm & Rhyme Storytime takes place on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. This early literacy program features movement and rhymes designed for families with children 2 ½ and older.

  • Just Baby & Me Storytime is held on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. focusing on songs, stories and movement for parents with infants up to 2 ½ years old.

  • S.T.E.A.M. Power! heats up every Thursday at 3:30 p.m. for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Join us for fun, hands-on creative activities including games, projects, experiments and more. Enjoy something different each week.

  • Music & Motion for Kids gets swinging every Friday at 10:30 a.m. Designed for children under 6, this program involves songs, dance and instruments.

  • Movie Matinee: Disney/Pixar’s “Toy Story 4” on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 3:30 p.m. When a new toy called "Forky" joins Woody and the gang, a road trip along-side old and new friends reveals how big the world can be for a toy. Featuring the voices of Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, this movie is rated G with a running time of 100 minutes.
