Florida Master Naturalist Learning Series Presents "Swamp Doctor" 2/27

January 30, 2020

Meet the inspiring Dr. Anna Darrow (portrayed by Carrie Sue Ayvar) who, in 1909, became the second woman doctor licensed in Florida. Darrow braved swampland, alligators, snakes and outlaw gangs to heal the sick, nurse the wounded and deliver babies. Telling the doctor’s story in the first person, storyteller and Chautauqua Scholar, Carrie Sue Ayvar brings Dr. Darrow to life. As Doc Anna said, “If you’ve never heard the roar of a bull alligator and some night bird answer, you haven’t lived.”
