Arbor Day at Port St. Lucie Botanical Gardens, 1/17/20

January 13, 2020

The Friends of the Port St. Lucie Botanical Gardens will celebrate Florida Arbor Day at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 17, 2020. Arbor Day in the United States holds a long tradition and place in the hearts of many citizens, remembering the Arbor Day celebrations of their youth and school years. Because of its subtropical growing climate, Florida celebrates a different Arbor Day date than that of the majority of northern states; the third Friday of each January is officially Florida Arbor Day.

At the request of Port St. Lucie Mayor, Greg Oravec, this year’s Arbor Day tree will honor the late Mayor Robert Minsky in addition to our traditional memorials. A very special Olive tree has been selected with generous financial assistance provided by GL Homes, Inc.

The Arbor Day ceremony will begin with a prayer, followed by greetings, a recitation of our Arbor Day poem, and the reading of names in memory of loved ones. A tree will then be planted in The Gardens identified with a plaque commemorating its year of planting. Memorials will be listed in the Book of Remembrance displayed in The Gardens’ Pavilion.  A minimum donation of $25.00 is requested for each memorial inscription and recognition.

Memorial forms are available online at www.pslbg.org/arborday. Donations can be made by check or online. Check donations can be sent to the Friends of the Port St. Lucie Botanical Gardens, Arbor Day Memorials, 2410 SE Westmoreland Boulevard, Port St, Lucie, FL 34952. Please be sure to include the memorial form with your desired memorial for inclusion in the Book of Remembrance.

To further expand the Arbor Day theme, the Gardens will be hosting an NGC Standard Flower Show “Mother Earth” over the weekend of Arbor Day. The show, which will be free and open to the public, takes place on Saturday, January 18th from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM and Sunday, January 19th from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM. We hope you will Consider joining us!
