To kick off and celebrate Florida’s Prescribed Fire Awareness Week, St. Lucie County’s Environmental Resources Department is proud to announce the 2nd Annual Wildland Fire Expo on Saturday, January 25, 2020 from noon to 5:00 PM. This fun-filled event will be held at the George Lestrange Preserve located at 4911 Ralls Road.
The free, family-friendly event is open to the public, and will feature food trucks, live fire and equipment demonstrations, as well as hands-on activities for all ages to enjoy. Participants will learn about prescribed fire and the role it plays in the protection of both our natural resources and public safety.
Hike the trail, meet your local agencies, and get up close and personal with fire trucks, 4x4 vehicles, heavy equipment, helicopters and much more. Children will have the opportunity to meet Smokey Bear and enjoy s’mores by a campfire. During the event, a live prescribed fire demonstration will be held, weather permitting, and visitors are encouraged to observe the process in action.
The Wildland Fire Expo is presented in partnership with St. Lucie County Environmental Resources Department, St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office, St. Lucie County Fire District, Indian River State College, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the Florida Parks Service and the Florida Forest Service.
