Bring the Family to the Hurston Branch Library This New Year

The Zora Neale Hurston Branch Library continues into 2020 with a host of educational and entertaining programs for the entire family.

Family activities for January include:

  • Storytime Jam on Tuesdays at 10:30 AM. For ages 3 to 5, clap, dance and listen to stories.

  • Make & Take Foam Craft Winter Break Fun on Thursday, January 2, 2020 at 3:00 PM. Most suitable ages 7 and older.

  • Movie Matinee: “Abominable” on Friday, January 3rd at 3:00 PM. Featuring the voices of Chloe Bennet and Albert Tsai, this movie follows three teenagers who must help a Yeti return to his family while avoiding a wealthy man and a zoologist who want him for their own needs. The movie is rated PG with a running time of 97 minutes.

  • 5th Annual Cupcake Event on Saturday, January 4th at 3:00 PM. Decorate your creation based on your favorite book. (This program will be offered at all branches.)

  • After School Adventures on Wednesday, January 8th at 3:30 PM. Adventures include storytime, crafts and all around fun. Most suited for students in kindergarten through 5th grade.

  • S.T.E.A.M. Power! provides fun, hands-on creative activities including games, projects, experiments and more on Saturday, January 11th at 2:00 PM.

  • Don’t miss the Zine Scene on Saturday, January 18th at 2:00 PM. A zine (pronounced zeen) is a self-published booklet created by cutting and gluing art, images and text onto a master for photocopying. Express your creativity, interests and individuality. This program is best suited for students in 8th grade and up. No experience is necessary, but if you are a zine maker please join us and share your work. Those who complete their zine can donate it to be displayed at the library.
