Just as tiny drops of water build an ocean, every action aimed at solving hunger builds a mighty force. Treasure Coast Food Bank urges the community to join in making a difference during Hunger Action Month. There are hundreds of ways to participate locally during the nationwide observance throughout the month of September.
“Treasure Coast Food Bank was founded because a group of dedicated volunteers came together to help solve hunger in our community. And 30 years later, we continue to celebrate that community spirit,” said Judith Cruz, President and CEO of Treasure Coast Food Bank. “Last year volunteers in our community spent over 46,000 hours donating their time. Hunger Action Month is a great time to make a commitment to take action to end hunger on the Treasure Coast.”
On August 28th, 2019 Hunger Action Month kicks off at Treasure Coast Food Bank’s food production kitchen. Local officials, community leaders, and executives and managers from Publix will team with Treasure Coast Food Bank to help cook and pack meals.
Throughout the month, local governments in Indian River, St. Lucie, Martin, and Okeechobee counties are planning to proclaim September as Hunger Action Month. Look for landmark buildings to be awash in orange light and fountains to spray orange water as the community shows its support for hunger-relief efforts. In downtown Fort Pierce, more than 20 businesses are building can-structures. The Cans for a Cause will be displayed throughout the month.
Social media is expected to turn orange as people join the awareness efforts by turning their profiles orange. Don’t be surprised to see many people in orange clothing on Go Orange Day September 12th.
Look for Treasure Coast Food Bank’s Hunger Action Month calendar. It lists activities that everyone can do each day to help make a difference. Start collecting change for a donation. Join the Food for Thought Tour. Wear orange to support hunger relief efforts. Host a food drive party, or participate in one of the many events planned during the month. The calendar can be downloaded from stophunger.org.
