Community Showing Support for BGC Fishing for Futures Tournament

June 13, 2019

The smiles said it all for children who benefited from the Boys & Girls Clubs Fishing for Futures fishing tournament. For some it was their first time on a boat and for others the first time they caught a fish.  Great memories and a lasting impact on each of the club members.

The 2nd Annual Fishing for Futures event is coming up August 31, 2019 and the community in encouraged to support this great event. The tournament features both inshore and offshore fishing, $12,000 in prize money, free tours of the Manatee Center, children’s activities and more. It is an important fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County. The money raised will help continue the work throughout the county to support more than 7,000 children.

“We are proud to announce our current sponsors,” stated Will Armstead, CEO of BGCSLC. “The Law Office of Villafranco & Garcia return as title sponsors. They have supported the event from the beginning. Southern Eagle Distributing, Bonner Bar, Manatee Center, Fiorella Insurance and Conchy Joe’s Restaurant have also signed on as sponsors. We are asking other businesses to join us in support of the children as well,” added Armstead.

In addition, TRM Construction and DLF Media (founding partners of the event) have been working with committee members for several months to organize this year’s event. The goal is to create a first-class fishing tournament and provide an opportunity for the young people to fish.

“It was great to see the children’s excitement last year,” added Leonard Villafranco. “If you’re asking why get involved, go to the website, bgcofslc.org and look at the photos. There are a hundred reasons to support this tournament.”

There is $12,000 in cash prizes including $5,000 for the largest fish caught. The tournament will be held at the Manatee Center in Ft. Pierce.
