Weekly Programs Blast Off at St. Lucie County Libraries This Summer

Blast Off into a “Universe of Stories” this summer with St. Lucie County Library System’s summer literacy activities that promote reading to all ages at seven locations. Children and families can enjoy storytimes, music, learning, science labs and more.

The Science Across the Universe program will be offered at six library branches June 11, 2019 through July 19, 2019 (except for the week of July 4). Designed for students in kindergarten through 5th grade, this program provides students with the opportunity to take part in hands-on science experiments. Come early, as space is limited:

  • Tuesdays at 3:30 PM at the Port St. Lucie Branch; 180 SW Prima Vista Blvd., Port St. Lucie.  
  • Wednesdays at 2:00 PM at the Lakewood Park Branch, 7605 Santa Barbara Drive, Fort Pierce
  • Wednesdays at 3:00 PM at the Zora Neale Hurston Branch, 3008 Avenue D, Fort Pierce;
  • Thursdays at 3:00 PM at the Kilmer Branch, 101 Melody Lane, Fort Pierce
  • Fridays at 2:00 PM at the Morningside Branch, 2410 SE Morningside Blvd., Port St. Lucie.

Special Summer Reading Entertainment takes places at five branches on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Designed for students in kindergarten to 5th grade, these programs will explore a wide range of topics focusing on reading, drama, science, nature and music.

  • Blast off into a Universe of Stories with the Super Stargazers. Enjoy dancing, trivia and much more during this intergalactic adventure.

    • Wednesday, June 19th at 10:30 AM at Lewis Branch
    • Wednesday, June 19th at 2:00 PM at Kilmer Branch

  • Take a Great Space Adventure and experience a Universe of Stories with magic and balloons featuring Wally the Wacky Word Bird. 
    • Wednesday, June 26th at 10:30 AM at Morningside Branch
    • Thursday, June 27th at 10:30 AM at Hurston Branch

  • The Oxbow Eco-Center brings the great outdoors inside. Join us for a fun, educational and interactive skit featuring stories of universal proportion with the Oxbow’s educational outreach staff.
    • Wednesday, July 10th at 10:30 AM at Lewis Branch
    • Wednesday, July 10th at 2:00 PM at Kilmer Branch

  • The Hobe Sound Nature Center gets wild with live animals. Enjoy this hands-on presentation on the best ways to distinguish between wild and tame animals.
    • Wednesday, July 17th at 10:30 AM at Morningside Branch
    • Thursday, July 18th at 10:30 AM at Hurston Branch

  • Close out the summer with a Reading Dance Party! It’s the interactive dance party of the season – come dance and sing along with the library staff.

    • Wednesday, July 24th at 10:30 AM at Lewis Branch
    • Wednesday, July 24th at 2:00 PM at Kilmer Branch
    • Thursday, July 25th at 10:30 AM at Hurston Branch

Weekly storytimes will be offered six days a week at 10:30 AM:

  • Mondays at the Pruitt Campus Library, 500 NW California Blvd., Port St. Lucie;
  • Tuesdays at Hurston
  • Tuesdays at Lakewood Park
  • Wednesdays at Kilmer
  • Thursdays at Morningside
  • Fridays at Kilmer
  • Fridays at Lewis
  • Fridays at Port St. Lucie
  • Saturdays at Lakewood Park

All St. Lucie County Summer Reading Programs at the libraries are free and open to everyone, thanks to the generosity of the Friends of the Library, the Children’s Services Council of St. Lucie County and the St. Lucie Mets.

Don’t forget the Summer Reading Challenge runs June 1st through August 3rd for children of all ages from newborns to teens. By reading and/or participating in activities, students can earn tickets to a St. Lucie Mets game, St. Lucie County pools and the St. Lucie County Aquarium, as well as a chance to win a Kindle Fire.
