April 18, 2017

Live demonstrations will highlight the 3rd Annual SLC Safety Festival on Saturday, April 29, 2017. Jaws of Life, K-9, SWAT and Fire demonstrations will be performed by our local First Responders. The event will feature the majority of our local safety organizations during an exciting day of activities.

The Safety Festival opens at 9am with displays by the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office that include the Mobile Command Unit and Bomb Disposal Unit; St. Lucie Fire District will showcase ladder and pumper trucks, HazMet, Air Rescue (helicopter) and a variety of other equipment; Port St. Lucie Police will have an Armored Personnel Carrier, SWAT gear, cruisers, motorcycles and more. In addition, St. Lucie Public Schools will provide tours of their mobile television unit, school buses and provide valuable safety information for parents.

Demonstrations begin at 10am when the SLC Fire District ignites their mobile burn unit. The fire will reach a temperature of over 1500 degrees. You’ll be able to witness how the FD handles the fire and puts it out. The K-9 demonstration will follow at 11am. This is a very impressive showing of how the Sheriff’s K-9 Officers perform their duties. At noon, Fire Rescue will perform an intense Jaws of Life rescue. A victim will be cut out of a car and transported to a waiting helicopter. The final show of the day will feature the PSL SWAT Team. They will perform an officer down re-enactment and a hostage rescue. It is your chance to see what our First Responders deal with on a daily basis to keep our community safe.
