St. Lucie Library System 2016 Summer Spectacular Programs

The St. Lucie County Library System kicks off its Summer Reading Spectacular programs Saturday, June 8 running through Saturday, Aug. 8 with events at all five branch libraries. Children and families can enjoy storytimes, music, learning, science labs and more.

Weekly storytimes will take place five days a week:
  • Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. at the Lakewood Park Branch, 7605 Santa Barbara Drive, Fort Pierce / 772-462-6870 and at 11 a.m. at the Zora Neale Hurston Branch, 3008 Avenue D, Fort Pierce / 772-462-2154
  • Wednesdays and Fridays at 10:30 a.m. the Fort Pierce Branch, 101 Melody Lane, Fort Pierce / 772-462-1616 and at 10:30 a.m. at the Port St. Lucie Branch, 180 SW Prima Vista Blvd., Port St. Lucie / 772-871-5450
  • Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. at the Morningside Branch, 2410 SE Morningside Blvd., Port St. Lucie / 772-337-5632 
  • Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. at the Lakewood Park Branch 
The new Library Science Olympics will also be offered at all five library branches June 14 through July 21 (expect for the week of July 4). Designed for students in kindergarten through 5th grade, the Science Olympics offers a chance to take part in hands-on science experiments, but come early, as space is limited:
  • Tuesdays at 3:30 p.m. at the Port St. Lucie Branch
  • Wednesdays at 2 p.m. at the Lakewood Park Branch and at 3 p.m. at the Zora Neale Hurston Branch
  • Thursdays at 11 a.m. at the Fort Pierce Branch
  • Fridays at 10 a.m. at the Morningside Branch
Every Wednesday and Thursday, four branch libraries will explore a wide range of topics focusing on reading, drama, science, nature and music: 
  • The Super Readers Show saddles up on Wednesday, June 8 at 10 a.m. at Morningside and 2 p.m. at Fort Pierce; and Thursday, June 9 at Lakewood Park at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Hurston. Join the Super Readers for a performance of magical proportions. They will show you just how to get started on your reading challenge. Don’t miss this display of literary feats that is sure to amaze one and all.
  • Explore DoDad’s Lab on Wednesday, June 15 at 10 a.m. at Morningside and at 2 p.m. at Fort Pierce; and Thursday, June 16 at 10 a.m. at Lakewood Park and 2 p.m. at Hurston. Professor DoDad brings original music, puppetry laughter, health and fitness to the library. Come see an array of wonderful and captivating science experiments and demonstrations.
  • Meet a real live book worm as Suzy Hammer visits on Wednesday, June 22 at 10 a.m. at Morningside and 2 p.m. at Fort Pierce; and Thursday, June 23 at Lakewood Park and 2 p.m. at Hurston. Visit with Suzy the Florida Bookworm for a delightful reading show that captures the imagination of young and old. Don’t miss the engaging stories, memorable puppets and magical surprises. 
  • Discover why Fire Safety Matters on Wednesday, June 29 at 10 a.m. at Morningside and 2 p.m. at Fort Pierce; and Thursday, June 30 at 10 a.m. at Lakewood Park and 2 p.m. at Hurston. Learn how to play safe and be safe with an exciting and educational presentation from the firefighters of St. Lucie County Fire District with a focus on injury and fire prevention.
  • Rock and bop as you become a part of Mr. Brian's "band" on Wednesday, July 13 at 10 a.m. at Morningside Library and 2 p.m. at Fort Pierce; and Thursday, July 14 at 10 a.m. at Lakewood Park and 2 p.m. at Hurston. Mr. Brian and the Boppets cover you with rhythm, timbre, harmony and tempo in this high- energy show. 
  • Be prepared for Ready, Set, Move! on Wednesday, July 20 at 10 a.m. at Morningside Library and 2 p.m. at Fort Pierce; and Thursday, July 21 at 10 a.m. at Lakewood Park and 2 p.m. at Hurston. Don’t miss this interactive dance extravaganza with DJ Rick and Emcee Ali. Get your groove on to the music and sing along with us.
All St. Lucie County Summer Reading Programs at the libraries are free and open to everyone, thanks to the generosity of the Friends of the St. Lucie County Library Association. Most programming is designed for students in kindergarten through grade 5. 
Don’t forget the Summer Reading Challenge runs May 28 through Aug. 2. By reading at least 12 books or for 12 hours students can win St. Lucie Mets tickets, a Kindle Fire and more. For details about the Summer Reading Challenge visit your nearest branch library. 
Parents are reminded that anyone under the age of 18 with a valid student ID or St. Lucie County Library Card can ride the Treasure Coast Connector for free.
