7th Annual Banana Bash Swings

The 7th Annual "Save the Chimps" Bowl-A-Thon Kicks off Sunday, May 3, 1- 3 p.m. at Saint Lucie Lanes

April 17, 2015
Cities and towns alike promote their local heroes and celebrities, from singers and actors to civic leaders and politicians. But how many are recognized as the home of heroes who first forged the dark reaches of outer space?

St. Lucie County has that claim to fame. Chimponauts used in the experimental Mercury Space Program live what remains of their lives at the Save The Chimps Sanctuary in Fort Pierce. All these brave explorers were rescued from further experimentation or destruction through the efforts Dr. Carole Noon and the Save the Chimps Foundation.

You can be a part of preserving the lives of one of man's closest relatives by coming out for a day of fun at The 7th Annual "Save the Chimps" Bowl-A-Thon, Sunday, May 3rd, 2015, from 1:00 PM to - 3:00 PM at Saint Lucie Lanes, located 6759 South Federal Highway in Port Saint Lucie. Proceeds benefit this noble cause and participants enjoy 2 hours unlimited bowling, shoe rental, and raffles. Adults pay a $20 donation to Save The Chimps, children 5 and under are only $10. Bring a bunch of bananas and get a free raffle ticket.

The event is a yearly free for all of fun, with over 100 people involved playing games, door prizes, raffles and a silent auction and of course, bowling! "We all look forward to this event every year," stated Phyllis Marino, Save The Chimps volunteer and event coordinator. "It's crazy fun, like a barrel of monkeys!"

Save the Chimps needs supplies for the Sanctuary. Bring peanut butter, (creamy only), pasta and rice, powdered Gatorade or PowerAde, (any flavor), jams or jellies, (any flavor), oatmeal and grits or fleece throws & blankets, (no quilts, comforters, mattress pads or sofa covers please) for the over 300 chimpanzees that call Fort Pierce home.
