Port St. Lucie is going orange for Hunger Action Month

August 29, 2014
The City of Port St. Lucie is participating in the "Go Orange for Hunger" awareness campaign throughout the month of September to support the Treasure Coast Food Bank. During Hunger Action Month, you'll notice we are using orange, the color of hunger, to light up our city buildings, headline our website postings and accent PSL-TV20 programming. City employees and staff will dress in orange every Friday in September to inspire people to take action to help those in need.

More than 48,000 residents in St. Lucie County do not know where their next meal is coming from; more than 16,500 of those are children. Please help us bring awareness to this problem and be part of the solution.

Making an online donation to the food bank's virtual food drive is the best way to support this worthy cause. Thanks to Treasure Coast Food Bank’s wholesale purchasing power and efficient distribution model, a gift of virtual meals provides more food than a traditional food drive — doubling or even tripling the amount of food your dollar can provide.

If you prefer to donate food, orange boxes will be located in Port St. Lucie City Hall, Community Center and Civic Center for non-perishable food donations. You can also buy a "Go Orange for Hunger" bracelet for $2 at those locations. All money from bracelet sales will be donated to the Treasure Coast Food Bank. And don't forget to check out the Food Bank's Hunger Action Month calendar, to see how you can help fight hunger in a different way every day in September.

We also encourage you to show your "Fighting Hunger Face" on Twitter and Facebook to bring awareness to the fight against hunger. Campaign sponsors will donate $1 to the food bank for every picture posted on these social media sites that shows supporters wearing orange.

Thank you for helping us fight hunger in our city and neighboring communities.
