Pre-course work for the February session will take place Thursday, Feb. 6 from 4 – 6 p.m. with the official course running Feb. 15-17 and Feb. 22-23 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Pre-course work for the March session will take place Thursday, March 6 from 4 – 6 p.m. with the official course running March 22-24 and March 26 and March 28 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
This class is designed for entry-level participants at all facility types. Students will learn surveillance skills to recognize and prevent injuries; rescue skills in the water and on land; first-aid training; professional CPR with oxygen administration; and other professional lifeguard responsibilities. The course takes place over 27.5 hours, including time at Ravenswood Pool and at-home computer studies.
To enroll, students must be at least 15 years old and be able to swim 300 yards continuously using each of the following strokes for at least 100 yards: crawl, breaststroke and stroke of your choice; swim 20 yards following a feet-first, surface dive in a minimum of seven feet of water to retrieve a 10-pound object and swim back 20 yards with the object and jump onto the pool deck within a minute and 40 seconds; and tread water for two minutes using only your legs.
The cost of American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Blended Learning with Oxygen Administration course is $200. Payment is due upon successful completion of the pre-course. This course is open to at least six participants and no more than 10.
