Macaroni Dad

'Cause Dad's Love Macaroni, Too!

Summer

Here we are ready to embrace the end of another school year and whether you're just starting out with little ones in school, or have already sent a few up the line, there is something relieving and slightly stressful when the school year draws to a close. For one, the traffic improves overnight and the big yellow buses no longer frequent the roadways. The morning pop tart, hair-brush and bus stop scramble will be temporarily placed on hold until August when the buses start to roll again. I can only imagine the teachers at an empty school running around like giddy teenagers (especially our daughter’s teacher) knowing they made it through another school year and now get to enjoy some grown-up time over the next 2 and a half months.

The end of the school year also means the beginning of hurricane season. Dear, sweet, tropical storm Andrea has been a gentle reminder of how wet and windy it can get fast in south Florida. Here we are a few days into June and we get a little kiss from Mother Nature that makes us wonder if this will be the year we regret not getting flood insurance. The Lord of Meteorology (S.W.) has cautioned us to be ready and prepared for what could be a busy hurricane season. I think if we all prepare more than we should it will undoubtedly steer the storms away from our coast and our homes. We are tough after all, but I don’t think we have to prove anything to anyone.

For the Mac family this summer we excite over a long overdue trip to visit Colorado and put the ashes of grandma and grandpa to rest. There will be friends and family to see, big rocks to climb and glorious sunsets over the mountains to watch. Some of us will be lucky enough to venture to Connecticut.

It will probably be over as quickly as it began and soon enough we will be wondering what happened to June, July and August and our summer of 2013.

Mac Mom will of course be missing the school year and first grade most of all because it means the little one, as much as she is loved, will be home every moment of every day to keep mom company and drive her up the nearest wall. I think it was approximately the end of June last year when I came home and found my youngest daughter duct taped to the living room wall with Sponge Bob playing on the DVR. MiniMac said that mommy did it.  Mommy was drinking wine and smoking a cigar...at 9:00 am on a Tuesday.

Bring on the summer...we are ready for you.
