Enrollment for the 2013-2014 Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) session begins Tuesday, January 22nd. This free program is open to children residing in Florida who wish to receive VPK services in St. Lucie County. Children must be four years of age by September 1, 2013.

VPK helps ensure children are intellectually, emotionally, physically and socially ready to enter school. Enrolling in the program is easy. Beginning January 22nd, parents can register their child at the Early Learning Coalition of St. Lucie County, 810 S. Sixth St., Ft. Pierce, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 am and 4 pm. Beginning February 4th, VPK hours will be Monday through Friday 1pm to 5 pm. No appointment is necessary.

Please bring:
  • Child’s original birth certificate (copies not accepted).
  • Social Security Card for the child (if available).
  • Proof of address such as water bill or other utility bill (cell phone bills are not accepted), lease, vehicle registration, any government document with the address on it.
  • Photo identification for the parent registering the child.
During the first week of registration, parents selecting a Public School site for their child’s VPK class can obtain their VPK certificate by registering  their child with the Coalition and then meeting with a school board representative on site to complete the registration process. After the first week, parents will have to first register their child at the Coalition office and then proceed to the School Board office to complete the registration process.

Another option is registering on-site at more than 30 childcare centers offering VPK classes. Parents can call 772-595-6363 for a list of providers offering onsite VPK registration.

Early Learning Coalition of St. Lucie County is a non-profit organization offering Child Care Resource and Referral services; the School Readiness (SR) program; the Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) program; and the Father and Child Connection Program.  Coalition programs are presented in partnership with the Children’s Services Council of St. Lucie County and the Coalition is a United Way of St. Lucie County member agency.  For more information about Coalition programs, call 772-595-6363 or visit www.elcslc.org
